A Big New Year Chop.
13th March 2010 Grading

Members of the Haverhill Tang Soo Do Korean Martial Arts Club, took part in the upgrading examination held on 13th March in Cambridgeshire in front of the Grand Master Kang UK Lee. Instructor 5th Dan Master Jason Miller said

“This weekend was a very important grading, Instructor Mr Dean Blackwell was tested for his Third Degree Black Belt, having to demonstrate advanced forms and fighting techniques against single through to three opponents which included two masters, before the physical test he had to take and pass a Korean Written test.

Instructor Mr Craig Phillips was tested for his Second Degree Black Belt, also having to perform Multiple forms, one step sparring against Mr Dean Blackwell, and free fighting against single through to three simultaneous opponents.

Mr Blackwell had to perform a knife hand strike to three house bricks and Mr Phillips the same technique but with two house bricks. after the testing the both said.

Both Instructors will be awarded their new grades and certificates at the next grading.

“We are both truly indebted to fifth Dan Master J Miller and Instructor Kevin Blackwell for all the instruction they have given over the years. We have been also been travelling once a week to study and train with the Regional Instructor Master Mark Ingram in St Ives, to prepare for this testing.

You really begin to understand why Tang Soo Do is not a sport but a traditional martial art, where you are tested physically, mentally and emotionally. At all times you have to respect yourself and everyone around you not just when training but all the time, its a way of life or philosophy.

Together we have trained tirelessly, helping each other through everything, never stopping because the other keeps going a constant circle of improvement.”

Well done to everyone else that took part an passed their grading, the whole club is so grateful for the massive support that came over to watch the grading a fantastic way to launch the 10th year anniversary of the Haverhill Do Jang.

Tang Soo Do is a classical martial art.

Its purpose is to develop every aspect of self, in order to create a mature personality who totally integrates his/her intellect, body, emotions and spirit.

This total integration helps to create a person who is free from inner conflict and who can deal with the outside world in a mature, confident, intelligent, forthright, and virtuous manner.

For anyone interested in trying out this Traditional Korean Martial Art of self defence.
